Last Saturday was my first (outing) assignment @ work, an excursion around Katong with the Xpats. It was a day with lots of walking and eating... According to the itinerary, we had 4 stops of makan places, 2 temples, a museum and a HDB block (with almost a bird's eye view of Katong) to venture that morning.
This programme was designed to allow Xpats to have a taste of local flavours, network and get to know a little about S'pore's history. We had an engaging and interesting tour-gudie to bring us round Katong area. Yours truely here is also a Singaporean but didn't know that much about Singpaore's heritage and somethings to look out for when we visit the reglious sites. Let me share what we ate on that day:
1) Mini nonya kuay, dumpling & otah. (The otah is a must try, it's thick and you get to taste the sweetness of the fish as well.)
2) Katong Laksa
3) Eurasian Cuisine (famous for their Devil's Curry. Historically, it was a dish cooked from leftovers from Thanksgiving. I didn't enjoy this at all.)
4) Peranakan Cuisine (their Babi Pong Tay and Ayam Buah Keluak are the 2 famous dishes. The food tasted like home cook food. Do go try out at Guan Hoe Soon restaurant.)
Not sure if you all know the meaning of expatriates, they are the white collar foreigners working or staying in Singapore. So what are the blue collar workers call? Hmm...
